Welcome to IFMA-CT

The goals of the Connecticut chapter of IFMA are to promote the Facility Management profession in the state of Connecticut, provide a forum for education and training programs pertinent to the practice of Facility Management and though our monthly meetings networking and information sharing opportunities.

The IFMA Connecticut Chapter board is dedicated to working more closely with you the members.

This is the year to take advantage of what we offer! We hope to see you at the meetings!

WE NEED YOU

We want YOU!!!  Your expertise is needed.  One of the goals set by the Chapter’s Strategic Planning Committee is to expand the number of people on each of the Chapter’s committees.

We have eight Committees that could use your ideas and participation.  We have Committees to meet all your areas of interest and areas where you wish to learn and grow in knowledge.  The Committee Chairs are enthusiastic and would be excited to talk to you and give you a brief overview of how their Committee functions and how you can become a vital member. Serving on a Committee is a great way to meet new IFMA members and to grow friendships with IFMA members with whom you already are acquainted.

If you would like more information on any of the committees, click on the Committee Chairperson’s name to send them an e-mail and they will get in touch with you. We want our Chapter to continue to grow and you are an important factor in that growth.

We have an immediate need for people to help us with the following three committees...

The MEMBERSHIP committee is involved with recruiting new and retaining existing members.  They contact new and prospective members, provide orientation for new members and create other initiatives to help the Chapter grow. Contact: Eric Schreijack

The PROGRAMS committee develops and presents monthly programs and tours on diverse and interesting topics and Facilities.  The programs are one of the many ways that the Chapter helps members gain personal and professional growth, and also provide the membership with many excellent networking opportunities. The speakers and topics provide members an educational source for industry methodology, technology, best practices and state-of-the-art practices as it relates to facilities management. The SPONSORSHIP committee has developing a sponsorship program designed to offset the cost of the monthly programs, special events and other membership benefits. The program will offer high visibility opportunities to receive recognition for providing yearlong, Chapter, special event and industry support, at different financial levels. Contact: Jay.Drew

Our other five committees are:

CERTIFICATION & EDUCATION committee which provides members with educational opportunities through seminars, classes, certification mentoring and other sources. The committee supports members who seek or want to maintain the CFM credential. Contact: Tony Miele

The COMMUNICATIONS & PUBLIC RELATIONS committee through the web site, e-mails and other communications provides a source of information to members and potential members by reporting on chapter activities. The committee enlists writers, edits submissions and coordinates the publication of material for the website and will be developing a newsletter. Writing an article  is a great way to share your expertise. Contact Rich Abrams

The JOB BANK committee maintains a listing of positions that are available and members looking for positions to try to match the two. They would like to hear from any members who are looking for a position or know of a position that needs to be filled. Contact: Eric Connery

The SPECIAL EVENTS committee plans events, such as the annual golf outing and holiday party that provide fundraising, networking, and recreational opportunities for the membership. Contact: Eric Schreijack

The STRATEGIC PLANNING committee is in the process of writing a strategic plan that will be used to guide the Chapter in the coming years. The committee welcomes the input from all members. Your ideas and suggestions will help us to increase the value of the Chapter to its members. Contact: Eric Connery

President’s Letter

Greetings to all of our IFMA Connecticut Chapter members. I have felt blessed and welcomed into this chapter. I want to personally thank all of the executive board and committee members for the outstanding hard work these past years. As we all know, finding time to volunteer seems to fall short on our list of free time. I appreciate all the effort that you have done to keep this chapter alive.

As I step into my new role with the organization I am looking forward to driving this chapter forward with quality programs, educational opportunities, and strategic planning. Taking on this role is important to me, as facility managers in  today’s market we have to focus on the core competencies that drive our industry; real estate, planning and project management, leadership and development, operations and maintenance,  technology, environmental health and safety, finance, quality assessment and communication.. I want this chapter to be a resource for both professionals and associate members. With so many challenges that face us today, having a local chapter of IFMA that has so many talented professional and associate members reassures us the we are not alone and many of the challenges and obstacles we face, have also been encountered by other FM professionals and we are all here to help and lend a hand in solving FM obstacles we face in our everyday travels.

As I look back on the past year, what immediately comes to mind is the missed opportunity to get more professional members involved in our chapter’s activities? I am always puzzled by the lack of participation from many of the Facility Managers. I know we are all busy, no one knows that more than me, but there is great value that comes with participation: networking saves time finding ideas or providers, formal and informal mentoring helps with career advancement, and meeting new people expands your list of business friends.

In closing, this chapter’s success is built on the volunteer’s. If you are interested in becoming involved and being part of a winning team, we are always in need of help. Feel free to call me anytime, or attend an open board meeting. I look forward to a successful year and hope you do as well.

Best Regards,

Tony Miele, CFM, FMP
